We miss our mentor and caro ITLA Committee member

Prof. Enrico Fontanari passed away

One month ago we received the very sad news about the sudden death of Enrico Fontanari, architecture professor of the International University IUAV of Venice, Italy. Enrico has been with ITLA as member of the planning team ahead of the 3rd ITLA Congress in Italy (Venice and Padua). We have experienced him as a wise mentor for our movement to obtain recognition for the terraced landscapes, open minded, supportive, always with constructive and positive suggestions and sparing time for our events since 2014. Please read the comments on the IUAV website  below, where is profound experience and his ample professional work are highlighted by many scholars, friends, students form different continents. Last time we met end of August 2019 in Vrtovin at the First European Terraced Landscapes Day. We were shocked by the message of his disappearance - we miss him as a friend, partner, mentor of ITLA.

ITLA Peru held its second teleconference on 24 July 2020

23 members of the newly founded network of ITLA in Peru came together virtually for the second teleconference about the future activities in favour of the terraced communities in the Peruvian Andes.
ITLA Peru has established a special Google drive to archive bibliography, proposals, announcements, minutes of meetings since the first meeting in June. One of the immediate plans is the organisation of a Seminar about Rethinking the terraced landscapes and its modernity at the end of this year. Five themes were proposed:
  • Construction, use and conservation of terraced slopes - Irrigation in the Andes.
  • Andean technology for the use and conservation of terraces with an efficient use of water, soil and plants.
  • Gender and terraces in the Andes
  • Foundation to contribute to food sovereigny and security of Peru
  • Political relevance of Terraces and influence on sector policies and local authorities

For the preparation of the seminar the group of young ITLA Peru proposed the organisation of 3 workshops: with the wise elders of terraced communities, with young researchers and activists, and with professionals.

The proposal by Carlos Herz and CBC (Center Bartolome de las Casas), who continue the pioneering work of Mourik, is to hold this seminar every year, and to include terraces in the pedagogic work of the Andean College and the academic partnerships for the formation of young experts.
Next virtual encounter will be next week - please contact CBC if you want to join the meeting and the network for Peru (Andes):  Juan Victor Bejar Questo indirizzo email è protetto dagli spambots.
